To You...on Mother's Day
It's the night before Mother's Day and you've already given me my gifts!! While I was out of town last weekend, Papa asked you what you thought we should do for me for Mother's Day. According to Papa, you said "I know!!", marched outside, grabbed a large piece of paper off of your art easel and said you needed to make me a picture! Papa said the whole time you were painting and coloring you would stop, step back, admire your work and exclaim "Mommy is going to love this!" over and over again! Oh how I wish I could have been there to see you so proud of yourself. I got a glimpse when I got home and you told me you had a surprise for me. You went into our room and came back out with your rolled-up artwork. Papa had already warned me to be excited about it....as if I had a choice! Mommy's just can't help but love everything their babies make for them. It's just how we're wired!!
I mentioned to you it wasn't Mother's Day yet and you emphatically told me "Uh huh...yes it is!" I convinced you to let me roll the picture back up and you put it back in Papa's closet in order to hide it from me. That was Monday. Thursday you told me "Mommy...I have a surprise for you!!" You ran back into our room and emerged with your picture, as proud as if it was the first time you were showing it to me! I'm sure you'll be even more overjoyed to show it to me tomorrow!!
On Friday you brought home the art project you did at preschool for Mother's Day...the one you'd been telling me about all week. You could barely get in the door without pulling it out of the bag to show me. You told me all about the "moon" stickers you picked out. It's hitting me right this second that it probably has something to do with our little game. "Mommy, do you love me?" "I love you all the way to the moon..." "AND BACK!!!" (Now your mommy's a big pile of tears!!)
Today you asked me why it was taking so long for their to be a baby in my tummy. I told you because God just wasn't ready yet to put one there. You told me "But my ready!" Mommy too, little man, mommy too. Maybe next Mother's Day you'll be a big brother, but THIS Mother's Day I'll just relish in all the love I get to give just to you. And as much as I love your beautiful 5ft long picture and painted wooden picture frame (pictures to come!), I couldn't ask for a greater gift than YOU this Mother's Day!!
