Hippity, hoppity, Easter's on it's way.... okay, so it's passed...better late than never =)

(Due to the massive amount of pictures I took these will all by undedited!)

Saturday, March 24 Grandma, Aunt Dee Dee and Mike came over to introduce the concept of decorating Easter eggs to Yummies. I thought it would also be a good time to introduce the whole egg hunt idea too...before we attempt it at an Easter festival with swarms of other kids! Aunt Dee Dee made cookies and got lots of fun things to use to decorate the eggs. William really got into the decorating, but didn't quite understand that it wasn't a good idea to just throw the egg over the side of his highchair when he was done with it!

After William had his fill of decorating eggs, we went outside for the 1st Annual Smith Family Easter Egg "hunt"...okay, maybe it was more of a easter egg "look...there it is"! He has never seen an easter egg before, nor have we played hide and go seek with any of his toys. This certainly was first all the way around. To ensure that he really "got" it and thought it was a GREAT game, I filled the easter eggs with matchbox cars (the newest prized possession) and jellybeans.

We grabbed his adorable baby bird easter basket/tin pail and headed outside. We showed him the first egg and he just stood there looking at it, wondering what it could possibly be. Aunt Dee Dee helped him open it to show him that cool things were hiding inside! He took the car from her, but wasn't too interested in continueing the hunt. A few eggs later he got more into it...shaking the egg to hear if something was inside, then bringing it to us and signing please for us to open it. The last few eggs he actually went and got himself. A few airplane distractions, 5 new matchbox cars, and some Mickey Mouse stickers later we had successfully completed William's first Easter Egg Hunt!

If only the SECOND Easter Egg hunt would have been as successful.... :)

We attempted to take William to an Easter Festival at a church in Groveland with Kolton today, but things didn't go as planned. Starting practically the second he got out of the car, William started in on the temper tantrums. He was excited to see the firetruck...climbing right up on in. He really wanted to play on the golf cart-like tractors the workers were using, but upon hearing that wasn't the greatest idea, he let us know he wasn't happy. And continued to let us know when we told him he couldn't play with the bounce house motor. After 5 minutes or so of unhappy vocalizations and full-out tantrums, we decided to go. I hated to make that decision, but how far can you really go to force your child to have fun?! We were there for him and his behavior was letting us know he didn't want to be there. Probably one of the toughest calls I've had to make in the last 17 months! :)
