And they're finally up...
We've been back from GA for a week or two now...it's about time I uploaded all the photos!
We had been promising William a week-long trip to GA all summer and finally carved out some time at the end of July when we were all free. After a few misadventures with the new portable DVD players we were off. The drive up was pretty uneventful, despite an hour long unintended detour. We decided to spend the next day around the cabin and enjoying downtown Blue Ridge. Yums was all about picking blackberries and feeding the birds, and by 10am was already begging to roast marshmallows!
We headed into Blue Ridge to distract him and it didn't tale long for him to remember Huck's General Store and that he always picks out a train there. We grabbed some lunch, let him play on the train tracks for a while, then headed to Mercer's Orchard to pick up some apple cider donuts and kettle corn :) Patrick was far more impressed by the home-made sweet potato fried pies. We roasted marshmallows that evening and made plans to head to Chattanooga, TN the next day.
The drive to Chattanooga was beautiful. It was a lot of fun to drive through the Blue Ridge mountains along the Ocoee River where my dad and I went white water rafting when I was 11. I STILL remember falling out into the icy river on the very first rapid. Anyway, we found downtown Chattanooga and I instantly fell in love. We intended on visiting both the TN aquarium and the Children's Museum along with the riverside splash park and carousel, but it was already noon when we arrived. We started at the Aquarium and were amazed at it's size. William LOVES stingsray and very much enjoyed getting to pet them right of the bat. Seeing the giant sharks was another favorite of his, as were petting the toothless sturgeon.
A few hours later we emerged from the aquarium realizing that the Children's Museum would have to remain a good reason to come BACK to Chattanooga. We decided to head across the bridge to the splash park in hopes of water-logging the little man for the drive back (think NAP!). There were a TON of camp kids there and Yums was understandably nervous, but Daddy took one for the team and got a little wet in order to get him comfortable. He loved it, but didn't love the crowd. He quickly tired and wanted to go home...but to his "new" home, he said! We showed him the carousel and asked if he wanted to ride it before we left..."Of COURSE my do!" We headed home after that with a bright-eyed little boy begging to play in the Ocoee river the entire drive. So much for our high hopes of a nap :)
Saturday we took Yums tubing down the Toccoa River. He was nervous about it at first, but excited. He opted out of his own tube and instead wanted to ride down on my lap. He lasted maybe 5 minutes before wanting to hop out into the icy cold river and onto some rocks. That was all well and good until the current started pushing mommy away from the rocks and little man needed to swim to get to me. He was wearing a life vest, but thank God for those swim lessons! So much for mommy staying dry and warm, though, as the soaked and shivering little man hopped back into my lap! An hour later when we got to the end of where we could tube he as begging to do it again...only this time in a fun-yak (inflatable kayak). Next time, little man...next time!
He did give me a little photo shoot before we packed up Sat night, but was being a total ham. He kept saying "I'm a model man" and putting his hands on his hips. Don't know where he got that from! ;) Needless to say, he did not want to go home on Sunday, but we promised him we'd be back in October to pick apples and go to the Elijay apple festival, like always! He keeps asking to see pictures from when he picked apples last year and the year before, so I'll link them here...for your viewing pleasure and HIS! =)
