Today at Gymboree...
I signed William up for a Gymboree class and our first class was today...or so I thought. We drive the 30 minutes to the class only to find out that the girl I spoke with on the phone told me the wrong day. Nice! Luckily there was an all-ages class going on and free-gym after that so William got to play. He waited patiently at the door to the gym while I filled out paperwork and once I told him he could go in he grabbed my hand and refused to leave my side. We had been there before, but for some reason this time he was nervous. He quickly warmed up and was running and climbing with the rest of the kids within minutes. When the teacher called us to the mat for group time he was so good! He sat when I asked him to; stood up when I asked...I was so proud of him! After the class was over the teacher handed out stamps...a very new concept to William. She put one on each hand and he just stood there bewildered! He looked back and forth between his hands, trying to pull them off! He pointed at them and asked me "Dat?" The entire way home he kept trying to show them to me. When Daddy got him he had to show them to him! I just can't get over how proud he was of them. All afternoon and evening, though, he's been signing "more" and "please" and pointing to his stamps. Guess I know what to keep around the house for really great behavior... :)
Yes, "please" is his new sign. He's using it in conjuction with "more" and has kind of merged it with "help me" to make his own sign for "help please!" It amazes me how purposefully he uses the signs. They've really helped his language too. He's combining a lot of his signs with word approximations. I should really write down all the words he says on a regular basis. I bet we'd be up to 100 or so...
One last little insight into William's world before I call it a night... He is LOVING that we have the new furniture but not the new mattress. We're currently sleeping on our queen mattress which is on the floor inside the new king bed. Ghetto, I know! Hopefully this will end in the next 2 weeks! Anyway, his favorite thing to do is jump up and down on the mattress until I "knock" him over. He will literally play this game for hours. Hopefully he'll get it out of his system before the "big bed" gets here and he can no longer get on and off with ease! Maybe now would be a good time to try some shots of him jumping on the bed. If only I could get some good light in our bedroom... Uncle Bobby, want to bring over some studio lights?!
