Our ride on the Big Boat!

So we're back from the cruise....ok, you got me...we've been back for weeks! Where has the time gone?! I know I've been slacking, but things have been so incredibly busy lately. My good friend Amy had her baby and we've been taking lots of fun newborn pictures! I'll link to her blog once we get them posted!

So the cruise was good! For William, the vacation started out GREAT as the nice firefighters we saw at Dunkin Donuts let him climb on their firetruck! I definitely think that was one of, if not the, highlights of the trip for him! He was very excited to see the big boat and didn't quite get that we were actually getting on it. I'm still not sure if it sunk in before the last couple of days that we were actually eating, sleeping, and playing on a BOAT!

The experience was a little different than we expected. Unfortunately, there was nowhere to take him to play, no activities except for 30 minutes early in the morning, and he wasn't allowed in the pools since he wasn't potty-trained...swim diaper or not! On top of that, we dragged Patrick's heavy laptop onto the ship so William could watch movies just to forget all the DVDs in the car. Thankfully they had one channel on the ship tv that was playing a Fisher Price Little People movie over and over again. Despite not liking being cooped up in such a small room, William did a great job of entertaining himself. We brought tons of new toys to keep surprising him with...his favorite being a Thomas the Tank Engine train that Grandma brought for him. It helped entertain him the most at dinner where he would race it up and down the sills of the round windows in the dining room!

The ports of call turned out to be a tad of a let-down. The last day we were supposed to have a beach day at Royal Carribean's private island, but it was raining and too windy to drop anchor so we detoured to Nassau. It was just as windy there but we headed for the beach anyway...we had been promising William a beach for DAYS! The beach was gorgeous, but because of the wind there were 15-20 foot waves breaking right on shore. Needless to say, William got a little freaked out! He enjoyed playing in the sand for a little while at least, and as far as he's concerned we took him to the beach!!! :)

Unfortunately, William and I both got sick the second day on the cruise. Thankfully William didn't get as bad off as I did. I thought it was just from the dry air in the room, but it turns out I had a nasty sinus infection. I lost my voice almost completely at times, couldn't breathe through my nose, and couldn't really sleep. I had no appetite the majority of the cruise and ended up LOSING a bunch of weight as opposed to the expected gaining! Our saving grace was that William ended up sleeping GREAT from Wednesday to Saturday. We got two long naps out of him and 12 great hours of sleep at night. It was quite humorous, because William figured out the first day on the ship that he could easily climb out of his pac n play, but he would never climb out once we put him to bed. First thing in the morning, though, it was "Mama...mama" and out he climbed and into our bed he came!
