I LOVE This Kid!!
He melts my heart... Yesterday...yesterday I thought I was going to kill him. After living through today, I think yesterday was just his day to get each and every last bit of BUTT behavior out of his system (or so I can hope!!). Today, though...today was enjoyable and reminded me why I want more.
I'm really trying to make the most out of the last 2.5 weeks I'll have with Yums before he starts 5 morning a week preschool. Yesterday we went to the Science Center; today I decided to try out the $1 movie at AMC. It was Surf's Up, and I figured he'd get a kick out of the penguins. And if he didn't make it through the whole thing...well, it was only a buck! He was so excited to leave the house this morning (which is a NICE change from the kicking and screaming of late "I want to stay HOME!!!"), and was so proud of himself paying for his ticket and handing it over to the lady at the theater. As soon as he saw the ticket counter he excitedly told me "OH...I need to get a treat!!" It was 10am, but WHATEVER!! Three bucks later he had a kid-sized drink, popcorn, and bag of fruit snacks. AMC, you definitely kick butt on Wednesday mornings, making up for the $87 it costs to see a movie with my husband on a Saturday night! ;)
Anyway, we made it through 30 minutes of the movie before he asked to go potty for the THIRD time. So I suggested we go play on the playground instead. The kids that were sitting behind us in the theater had left to and were also at the playground. The oldest, probably seven or so, came up and asked me if he could play with Yums. They started playing "knights" which actually meant something to the 7 year old...my son just chased him around saying "I'm gonna get you!!!" The kid's younger brother, who was probably 2.5, became the bad guy and they switched to chasing him around. I was so proud of Yums for not getting too worked up, for not being aggressive... Then he went on to melt my heart...
They were chasing the younger brother around and he tripped on one of the giant mushrooms. Before I could lean over to help the kid up Yums asks him "You okay friend?" Sigh... I love this kid. Right in that second I felt completely validated as a parent. It was just one of those moments of pride not only in my son but in my parenting. It's rare you'll see me pat myself on the back, you're more likely to hear "I do the best I can," but today...today I will be proud that we've instilled in him a sense of concern and compassion for others. Today certainly made yesterday worth it!!
So I let him ride the carousel and bought him ice cream at Twisty Treat (okay, I bought ME ice cream too!) :P

Aww, those days and moments just make everything worth it, don't they? It's so nice to see the values you've strived to instill in your kids actually work! It's like a load almost lifted and it's a memory that's worth TONS when you have one of "those" days again! :)
He's SUCH a cutie!
Told ya you were a great mom! How sweet of Yums to ask if the other kid was ok.... it's good to know that you've instilled such wonderful values in him. It's sad that there are so many kids out there who aren't taught them these days.
Can you believe that Alex starts Kindergarten on Tuesday? I honestly don't know what to do with myself. He's super excited about going, but I'm probably just going to come home and bawl because he's started "big kid" school! Is Yums excited to start school? And are you excited for him?
