Binky, BB, and Yums...
We have a problem. We are 100% obsessed with our blanket and pacifier....and by "we" I mean William! If I had to choose the perfect time to have taken the pacifier away it would have been around 14 months. At that point he only used it in his crib...maybe occasionally in the car if I needed some peace and quiet or he needed to fall asleep. If he found one out and about and I caught him with it, he would laugh, take it out of his mouth, and run into this room and put it in his crib. He completely understood "put binky night night" and knew that if he wanted it he was going to go in his crib. It was out-of-sight, out-of-mind, and I found myself thinking "I'm not going to worry about taking it away...he couldn't care less if he has one anymore." WRONG!!!
As of the last month, William has entered his fearful stage. Things that didn't used to scare him terrify him now (like pools), and he always wants to take something from home anytime we leave the house. This new stage in his development has also led to him looking for additional security objects. The blanket that also used to stay in the crib now gets carried around EVERYWHERE! It's cute, really, how he searches for the middle of the blanket where the silky square used to be (he's now chewed it to bits), holds that part in his mouth, and rubs his cheek with the soft part of the blanket. But it's not only the blanket...it's the binky too. Mean mommy is going to have to start taking it away again. We're down to 3 or 4 binkies and those are quickly getting misplaced...and I am NOT about to start buying pacifiers again! Maybe if I'm lucky he'll substitute the blanket for the pacifier!
Anyway, here's a very representative picture of his adoration for his BB ("big blanket"...we have a smaller version that used to go as "little blanket")...
